Nigerian Military Forces Achieve Major Counter-Terrorism Breakthrough in Borno State

The Nigerian military has scored significant victories against Boko Haram insurgents in Borno state, eliminating a senior commander and disrupting terrorist financial networks in coordinated operations this week.

Interception of Terrorist Funds at Chabbal Checkpoint

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, intercepted a suspicious vehicle at the Forward Operating Base Chabbal Checkpoint in Borno state. During the operation, military personnel recovered approximately ₦37 million in cash along with several mobile phones believed to be connected to terrorist activities.

The interception occurred during routine patrols along routes frequently utilized by terrorist elements. The vehicle contained five occupants at the time of the operation, which represents a strategic effort to dismantle financial conduits supporting insurgent logistics and operational capabilities.

Elimination of Senior Boko Haram Commander

In a related development, Operation HADIN KAI forces successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on Pulka and Mandaragirau communities in Gwoza Local Government Area between February 14 and 16. During these intense engagements, troops neutralized senior Boko Haram commander Abou Aisha, who sustained a critical gunshot wound to the neck.

The military recovered multiple weapons and military equipment from fleeing insurgents following the clashes. The attacks originated from the Sambisa Forest axis but were met with determined resistance from Nigerian forces, forcing terrorist elements to retreat in disarray.

Military Strategy and Operational Updates

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, confirmed that recent operations mark a strategic shift toward choking terrorist logistics and movement across the theater of operations. Follow-up operations along the Kimba axis uncovered blood trails, shallow graves, and abandoned items, indicating heavy losses suffered by insurgent forces.

The Military High Command has commended troops for their bravery and professionalism, describing the failed attacks as evidence of growing desperation among terrorist elements facing sustained military pressure.

Casualty and Evacuation Details

While no Nigerian military personnel were killed during the clashes, some members of the Civilian Joint Task Force supporting the operation lost their lives. Injured personnel were immediately evacuated by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI and Nigerian Army aviation platforms for urgent medical attention.

Operation HADIN KAI leadership emphasized their continued commitment to dismantling terrorist networks, safeguarding vulnerable communities, and restoring lasting peace and economic stability across Nigeria's North East region.
