Borno Police Command Issues Stern Warning Against Electoral Violence and Thuggery

Community Engagement for Electoral Awareness

The event took place at the Lamisula Police Divisional Headquarters in Maiduguri and was led by the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid.

Emphasis on Peaceful Electoral Processes

In his address, Commissioner Abdulmajid stressed the critical need for the electorate to reject all forms of violence. He specifically mentioned offenses such as ballot box snatching and other related crimes during the forthcoming 2027 general elections in Borno State.

Abdulmajid stated, "These electoral offences significantly undermine the basic democratic processes in electing leaders at the state and council levels." He also highlighted the importance of adhering to the rule of law, respecting human rights, and encouraging active community participation to ensure peaceful electoral processes across the state, including border communities with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger Republic.

Commitment to Security and Public Cooperation

The Command reiterated its commitment to providing a peaceful and secure environment before, during, and after the electoral processes. The public was urged to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Stakeholder Participation and Support

The event saw the participation of key stakeholders, including:

  • Ali Umar Bolori, Chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC)
  • Mala Tijani Ngala
  • Lucy Dalma
  • Ambassador Abatcha Nanabe, Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Borno State
  • District heads, community leaders, and religious leaders

Ambassador Nanabe expressed appreciation for the Command's timely and proactive engagement with various communities to sustain peace and development in the state.
