FCT Police Command Dissolves Tactical Teams, Establishes New Violent Crime Response Unit

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a major restructuring of its tactical operations. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi has dissolved all existing tactical teams within the command, merging them into a unified unit known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU). This new unit will be solely dedicated to responding to violent crimes across the FCT, aiming to create a more coordinated and effective operational framework to enhance public safety.

Commissioner Issues Stern Warning Against Extortion and Unprofessionalism

During an emergency meeting with all Area Commanders and Tactical Commanders at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Commissioner Sanusi delivered a firm warning to officers. He emphasized that acts of extortion, harassment of the public, and all forms of misconduct will not be tolerated under his leadership. The Commissioner stressed the importance of maintaining professionalism and vigilance in the discharge of duties, noting that supervisory officers will be held vicariously liable for any misconduct by their subordinates.

In his opening remarks, Commissioner Sanusi commended the officers for their commitment to duty and highlighted that the crime rate in the FCT has remained relatively low since he assumed office. However, he cautioned officers to remain proactive and responsive within their respective Areas of Responsibility to sustain these gains.

Enforcement of Discipline and Public Cooperation

To enforce discipline, the Commissioner tasked the Commander of the X-Squad with intensifying monitoring and enforcement operations against unprofessional conduct within the command. He made it clear that any officer found engaging in misconduct will be promptly arrested and face appropriate disciplinary actions.

The Commissioner also called on residents of the FCT to continue cooperating with the police and other security agencies in efforts to maintain peace and security. He urged the public to desist from inciting confrontations for the purpose of recording and circulating such content, noting that police officers are dedicated to protecting lives and property. Residents were encouraged to report any suspicious activities promptly to the police or relevant security agencies, as public cooperation remains a critical component of effective policing.

This restructuring and the accompanying warnings reflect the FCT Police Command's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. The command will continue to implement proactive measures to sustain peace within the territory, aligning with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
