Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu (Rtd), has issued a clarion call for a unified front against the rising insecurity in Nasarawa State and Nigeria. In a special Christmas statement, he specifically tasked the Christian community across the state's 13 local government areas to spearhead prayers and collective action for peace.
A Call for Unity and Prayer in Troubled Times
The statement, signed by the former police chief and made available to the press in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on 26 December 2025, admonished all citizens, irrespective of faith, to join hands. Abubakar-Adamu emphasized that combating the "bad elements" perpetrating heinous crimes requires both practical action and spiritual fortitude.
He framed the appeal within the context of the Christmas season, urging Christians to embody the virtues of Jesus Christ. "At this critical moment in our nation’s journey, I invite us all to embrace the spirit of peace, tolerance, and togetherness that Christmas represents," the statement read. He further encouraged Nigerians to "rise above division, reject hatred, and renew our commitment to building a safer, stronger, and more inclusive Nasarawa State and Nigeria."
Christmas as a Catalyst for National Renewal
The former IGP described Christmas as a period for deep reflection on shared values and collective responsibility. He noted that the season, which reflects love, sacrifice, and hope, should remind citizens of the enduring principles that bind the nation together.
"Christmas reminds us of the enduring values that bind us together as a people: unity in diversity, compassion for one another, and an unshakable belief in a better tomorrow," the statement added. Abubakar-Adamu stressed that it is a pivotal time to reflect on the duty to build a society anchored on justice, security, mutual respect, and shared prosperity.

While calling for vigilance and prayer, the former police boss also commended the resilience of Nasarawa citizens. He gave special recognition to the sacrifices made by youths, women, and security personnel who work tirelessly to sustain their communities.
His message concluded with prayers for comfort, strength, and hope for all citizens. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that the New Year would bring divine guidance for the nation's leadership. "As we look ahead to the New Year, may God grant us wisdom in leadership, clarity of purpose, and the courage to do what is right for the common good under the Renewed Hope Initiatives of Mr. President," the retired IGP stated.
