Welfare Support Under Group Life Assurance

This substantial payment was executed on Friday, January 9, 2026, in Maiduguri as part of the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance Scheme (GLAS). Assistant Superintendent of Police Nahum Daso, who announced the disbursement, confirmed that the beneficiaries are the next-of-kin and family members of police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.

Daso emphasized that the N18.38 million represents part of the hazardous benefits and other welfare schemes designed to support the families of deceased personnel. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its officers and their families.

Leadership Commitment to Fallen Heroes

Commissioner Abdulmajid, who represented the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, during the presentation, stressed that officer welfare remains a top priority for the Force leadership. He described the GLAS initiative as a clear demonstration of IGP Egbetokun's compassion, accountability, and exemplary leadership.

"This scheme honors officers who paid the supreme price in the course of their duties for the nation's peace and security," Abdulmajid stated. He urged the beneficiary families to utilize the funds judiciously, particularly in supporting education, healthcare, and the overall well-being of their members across various communities.

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Usman Lawan expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector General of Police and the entire Force leadership for their compassionate gesture. Lawan assured the police authorities that the disbursed funds would be managed responsibly for the benefit of all family members.

The event highlighted the Nigeria Police Force's ongoing efforts to provide meaningful support to the families of personnel who die while serving the country with courage, dedication, and professionalism.

Related Development: Governor Otti Commends Police Posting Policy

In a separate but related development, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has commended Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for implementing a policy of posting police officers to serve in their states of origin.

Otti made this commendation on Thursday when he hosted 31 newly commissioned police officers from the 7th Regular Course of the Nigerian Police Academy who are Abia indigenes and have been deployed to the state.

The governor described the policy as noble, fantastic, and well-intentioned. He argued that it enables indigenous officers to leverage their grounded knowledge of local language and culture while performing their duties.

"It is a fantastic policy to post officers to their home states. You know all the nooks and crannies of where you come from," Otti stated. "If they had posted you to Maiduguri, maybe before you settle down and get used to the culture, the language would also be a barrier. Here, if they are speaking any language, you will understand. So, there are a lot of advantages."

Governor Otti used the opportunity to salute the IGP and his team for what he called a great policy that enhances community policing and crime-fighting effectiveness.
