The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has officially decorated a new batch of one hundred and thirteen senior officers who were recently elevated in rank. The ceremony, which took place at the corps national headquarters in Abuja, saw the officers rise from the rank of Deputy Commandant of Corps (DCC) to the prestigious position of Commandant of Corps (CC).
Commandant-General Issues Stern Warning on Postings
During the decoration ceremony held on Thursday, the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi, delivered a firm message to the newly promoted officers. He explicitly warned them against the practice of lobbying for preferred duty postings. Dr. Audi announced that their official postings would be released shortly and instructed them to be prepared to depart from their current stations.
"Do not lobby for postings. Accept wherever you are posted because you do not know what God has planned for you," the CG advised. He emphasized that the officers must accept their new deployments without succumbing to external influence or pressure, framing the assignments as part of a larger, unforeseen plan.
Promotion Part of Larger Exercise to Boost Morale
This group of 113 officers is a segment of a much larger promotion exercise. According to reports, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) approved the promotion of a total of 5,859 NSCDC personnel in December 2025. Dr. Audi highlighted that these latest elevations have now increased the total number of Commandants within the corps to over 300.
The NSCDC boss congratulated the officers, noting that their hard work, commitment, and loyalty earned them the new ranks. He, however, stressed that higher rank comes with greater responsibility, urging them to become role models of discipline. Dr. Audi also pointed to a positive shift in the corps's promotion culture, recalling that before his administration, some personnel were stuck in one rank for more than ten years, which severely dampened morale.
Minister of Interior Calls for Redoubled Efforts
Also present at the event was the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who was represented by the Secretary of the CDCFIB, retired Major-General Abdulmalik Jubril. The Minister stated that the ongoing recruitment into the NSCDC is aimed at strengthening the corps's capacity to effectively deliver on its core security mandate.
He described promotions as a vital tool for boosting morale, especially in the face of the country's evolving security challenges. Dr. Tunji-Ojo specifically charged the decorated officers to intensify their efforts in critical areas such as VIP protection and to justify the confidence placed in them by the Federal Government. He further encouraged all personnel to proactively share relevant information with the board to support operational efficiency.
One of the promoted officers, Commandant Hussaini Pama, responded on behalf of his colleagues. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Interior Minister, the CDCFIB, and the Commandant-General for recognizing their service. Pama acknowledged that the new rank brings added responsibilities and pledged that the promotion would serve as motivation for him and his peers to achieve better results in protecting lives and property across Nigeria.
