Police Summon Activist JustAdetoun Over Alleged Defamation of Ogun Governor
Police Invite JustAdetoun for Defaming Ogun Governor

The Ogun State Police Command has officially summoned prominent rights activist and social critic, Adetoun Onajobi, widely known as JustAdetoun, for accusations of defaming the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

Police Confirmation and Pending Invitation

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ogun State, Boluwatife Babaseyi, confirmed the development to journalists on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. He stated that Onajobi had been invited and that the command was awaiting her response to the summons. Babaseyi noted that her legal representative had already initiated contact with the police authorities.

"We have invited her and are expecting her to honour the invitation. But her lawyer has reached out to us," Babaseyi said. He promised to provide updates, adding, "I will feed you back immediately if there’s any development."

The Content of the Alleged Defamatory Statements

The invitation stems from a series of videos Adetoun, an activist originally from Ogun State, posted on her social media platforms. Her criticisms targeted Governor Abiodun in the aftermath of a tragic accident in December 2025 involving Nigerian-British boxing star Anthony Joshua.

In her posts, Adetoun alleged that the Ogun State government abandoned Joshua and his team after the accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, which claimed the lives of two of the boxer's friends and trainers. She claimed that it was the Lagos State government that provided necessary care, insinuating a failure of emergency response in Ogun.

She further escalated her allegations, claiming the state lacked a single functional ambulance. "I have done about 700 cases with Ogun without an ambulance being provided," she stated in one of her videos.

Serious Personal and Financial Allegations

Beyond the emergency response critique, Adetoun's videos contained severe personal accusations against the governor. In one clip, she accused Prince Dapo Abiodun of misconduct, alleging he had impregnated individuals. She also labeled him as someone whose primary expertise is "partying."

The activist made further claims of financial malfeasance, alleging the governor is skilled at embezzling public funds and unlawfully seizing citizens' properties. These statements form the core of the defamation case being investigated by the police.

The situation places a spotlight on the tense relationship between social critics and state authorities in Nigeria. As the police await Adetoun Onajobi's formal appearance, the case raises significant questions about freedom of speech, the limits of criticism, and the legal repercussions for alleged defamation of public officials.
