Police and NDLEA Forge Stronger Alliance to Curb Drug Abuse in Ogun State
In a significant move to address the growing menace of drug abuse and trafficking, the Nigeria Police Force and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ogun State have intensified their collaborative efforts. This renewed partnership was solidified during a familiarisation visit by the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, to the NDLEA Ogun State Command, where he was warmly received by the state commander, Tijani Rabbe.
Strengthening Synergy for Enhanced Crime Prevention
According to a statement issued by the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the primary objective of the visit was to bolster synergy between the two law enforcement agencies in combating drug-related crimes. The collaboration will focus on three key areas:
- Intelligence Sharing: Enhancing the exchange of critical information to identify and dismantle drug networks.
- Joint Operations: Conducting coordinated raids and arrests to target traffickers and abusers effectively.
- Coordinated Public Sensitisation: Launching awareness campaigns to educate communities on the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.
This multi-faceted approach aims to create a more robust and proactive strategy against substance abuse, leveraging the combined resources and expertise of both agencies.
Recognition of Commitment to a Drug-Free Society
In a notable gesture, Commissioner Ojajuni was decorated with the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Ambassadorial Tag during the visit. This honour underscores his dedication and leadership in the fight against drug abuse, highlighting his pivotal role in advocating for a healthier, drug-free environment in Ogun State. The WADA initiative is part of broader national efforts to curb substance abuse through public engagement and enforcement.
Ojajuni expressed his gratitude to the NDLEA for the recognition and reaffirmed the police command's unwavering commitment to fostering deeper inter-agency cooperation. He emphasised that addressing substance abuse and related crimes requires a united front, with both agencies working hand-in-hand to protect citizens and uphold the law.
The strengthened collaboration between the police and NDLEA in Ogun State marks a proactive step towards mitigating the impact of drug abuse on communities. By combining forces, they aim to enhance public safety, reduce crime rates, and promote a culture of health and well-being across the state.
