The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Zone 2 Command has made a strong appeal for unity and peace across Nigeria. This call to action was the central message at the command's 2025 end-of-year celebration, held at its headquarters in Onikan, Lagos State.
A Celebration of Peace and Joy
With the theme 'Peace and Joy to the World', the event was a vibrant mix of solemn reflection and celebration. The programme featured spirited performances by the Police Band and Choir, along with traditional carol renditions. Pastor Godwin Adodo from Glorious Christian Ministries in Lagos delivered a word of exhortation, setting a reflective tone for the gathering.
The occasion drew a distinguished audience, including service chiefs from sister security agencies and senior police officers from the Lagos State Command and other formations. Also in attendance were religious and traditional leaders, the coordinator and members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Zone 2, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other dignitaries.
Leadership Commits to Sustained Security
In his address, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, expressed gratitude for the successes achieved in 2025. He specifically highlighted Lagos and Ogun states as being among the most peaceful in the nation.
AIG Fayoade assured residents that the command would not relent in its efforts to maintain security. He detailed that robust security measures are actively in place to prevent crime and criminal activities. However, he emphasized that citizen partnership is crucial, appealing for collective efforts to further reduce crime to the barest minimum.
Awards Recognize Exemplary Service
A key highlight of the event was the recognition of outstanding individuals. The Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, Chief Superintendent of Police Adetayo Akerele, was honoured with an Award of Excellence by Eagle NewsMedia.
The award, presented by the CEO of Eagle NewsMedia, Camil Ezenwa, acknowledged Akerele's exemplary leadership, dedication, and achievements. Ezenwa praised his stewardship, noting significant progress in strengthening public safety, restoring orderliness, and fostering community trust across Lagos.
In his response, CSP Akerele remarked that "the reward for hard work is more work," reaffirming his commitment to excellence. He also used the platform to urge young Nigerians, particularly security operatives, to remain morally guided and vigilant in their duties to ensure citizens can "sleep with their two eyes closed."
Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Director of Press and Public Affairs for the Lagos State Taskforce, described Akerele as an astute manager and strategic thinker. He stated that the award underscores Akerele's unwavering dedication to building a safe, orderly, and vibrant environment for all Lagosians.
The event successfully blended festivity with a serious commitment to the core mandate of the police: ensuring peace and security through community engagement and professional excellence.
