Eight Life-Sentenced Prisoners Turn UK High-Security Wing into 10-Hour War Zone
In a shocking incident at HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire, eight convicted killers transformed a prison wing into a chaotic war zone for approximately 10 hours in October 2022. The inmates, already serving life sentences, staged a violent mutiny by refusing to return to their cells after lunch, forcing authorities to deploy an elite national response team to restore order.
Unlikely Tools and Tactics Used in Prison Takeover
The prisoners employed unconventional methods to seize control, pouring oil, shower gel, and shampoo across the landing corridor floor. This created a dangerously slippery surface, preventing officers from safely entering the area. They overturned furniture to form barricades at the top of a staircase and crafted makeshift riot gear, including improvised helmets designed to protect them from Pava spray and pyrotechnic devices used by authorities.
Armed with broken table legs and kettles, the group maintained a defiant standoff throughout the afternoon. Eventually, they retreated to the cell of inmate Korie Hassan, where they barricaded themselves in for a final confrontation. Control of the wing was not regained until about 10pm, when officers successfully restrained all eight prisoners.
Additional Jail Terms Handed Down at Cambridge Crown Court
The eight men have now faced further legal consequences, with the final sentence delivered on February 20 at Cambridge Crown Court. Each received additional jail terms that will be served on top of their existing life sentences. The sentences are as follows:
- Rick-Champion Champion Musaba, 30, received an additional four years for participating in a prison mutiny.
- Nicholas Bridge, 26, and Irwin Constable, 25, were each sentenced to three years and six months.
- Korie Hassan, 33, was given three years and four months after admitting violent disorder.
- Dior Diego Jackson, 27, received one year and nine months.
- Bradley Blundell, 26, and Troy Muschett-Thomas, 25, were each handed 18-month extensions.
- Jahliel Rose, 29, was sentenced to one year and four months.
This incident highlights significant security challenges within high-security prison facilities, underscoring the need for robust measures to prevent such violent uprisings in the future.
