A chef known as @bavinskitchen on TikTok has raised an alarm after finding mould in his hotel room in Asaba, Delta State. In a viral video, he described the microscopic fungus as a silent killer and claimed it had already cost the life of someone he knew who had everything planned out for himself.

The chef shared footage showing mould growth in the corners of his hotel room. He urged viewers to pay attention to their health and treat mould if found in their homes. “Mold is dangerous please pay attention to your health. Maybe na mold dy do you. You think say na your father people,” he captioned the video. He added, “This thing ended the life of somebody I know that had everything planned out for himself and that is mold. This thing is a silent killer. If you have it in your house, there are ways to treat it. Don't let mould take your life.”

Health Risks of Mould Exposure

According to Healthline, mould exposure is rarely deadly but can cause severe health issues. Inhaling mould spores may trigger asthma attacks, respiratory infections, and allergic reactions, particularly in individuals with lung disease or weakened immune systems. In extremely rare cases, invasive mould infections can be fatal. Mould thrives in warm, damp, and humid environments.

The video sparked numerous reactions on social media. A commenter named Nail tech in Benin said, “I thought these things were caused by rain, like cold wall?” Alubarika explained, “Most of the pictures people are sending are caused by dampness… it occurs sometimes around external walls, walls close to bathrooms, or absence of DPC. Absence of DPC can cause dampness anywhere even on internal walls.” Anita Osei provided a treatment method: “First, remove the plastering and drill into the blocks. If they are hollow, drill the mortar joints and inject chemical. Leave for three to four days, then plaster with waterproofing chemical and paint.” SlimPearl?? noted, “I’ve treated mine twice, it comes back after 3-4 months.” ADABUIFE?? said, “Currently disturbing me, I don't have money.
