Fire Destroys Goods Worth Millions in Katsina Market

Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed when a fire engulfed ten shops at the Central Market in Katsina State. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 6:34 p.m., and preliminary investigations suggest the blaze was triggered by a solar-powered inverter.

Fire Service Response

The Katsina State Fire Service confirmed receiving a distress call, prompting firefighters to swiftly mobilise to the scene. Their rapid response helped contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent sections of the market.

Shops Affected

The fire impacted ten shops that dealt in groceries, drinks, curtains, and fabrics. Firefighters successfully saved seven other shops and prevented further damage. Specifically, shops numbered 112 to 114, along with their contents—including a Peugeot 406 car—were salvaged. However, shops numbered 128 to 130 were completely razed by the fire.
