A containerised supermarket located along Lubcon Road in the Mandate Area of Ilorin, Kwara State, has been completely destroyed following a fire outbreak triggered by a spark from a high-tension electricity transmission line.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, leaving goods and property worth millions of naira reduced to ashes. Residents and nearby traders were thrown into panic as flames engulfed the structure.
According to the Kwara State Fire Service, emergency responders received a distress call at approximately 3:08 a.m. Firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene in an effort to contain the blaze.
The agency confirmed that the affected structure was a containerised shop used as a supermarket, which was already engulfed in flames before firefighters arrived.
Cause of the Fire
Preliminary findings indicated that the fire started when a spark from a high-tension transmission line positioned directly above the building fell onto combustible materials, igniting the outbreak.

Although firefighters succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining shops and properties, the supermarket was completely destroyed before the situation was brought under control.
