The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) yesterday handed over three refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Lagos State Police Command to enhance the command's operational capabilities.

Officials stated that the handover reinforces the fund's reputation as one of Nigeria's most effective public-private security intervention institutions. The gesture highlights the commitment of the Lagos State government and the LSSTF leadership to maintaining a proactive and well-equipped security framework capable of addressing evolving security challenges.

This intervention is expected to improve security operations in Lagos, which is widely recognized as Nigeria's economic hub and West Africa's commercial center.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, Fatai Tijani, praised the LSSTF under the leadership of its Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan. He described the donation as a significant and strategic move that will greatly enhance operational mobility and tactical response throughout the state.

“The LSSTF has donated three APCs to boost our operational capacity. This is a positive development because these are resources we need to improve our efficiency,” Tijani said.

He noted that the newly provided Armoured Personnel Carriers will significantly improve the command's ability to respond quickly to security incidents in difficult terrains and high-risk areas. “We can now reach every corner with these APCs to combat crime,” he added.

The Director of Administration of the LSSTF, Degbola Lewis, who represented Ogunsan, explained that the presentation aligns with the fund's core mandate to continuously support security agencies with essential operational tools and logistics for effective policing and public safety management.

“This is in line with our mandate to provide equipment, logistics, and training to security agencies to enhance security in Nigeria,” Lewis stated. He emphasized that the LSSTF remains dedicated to collaborating with security agencies to identify and address their operational needs through strategic interventions and sustained institutional support.

“We need to ensure they have adequate equipment. We also work with the security agencies to determine what they require,” he added.

According to Lewis, the handover of the APCs is expected to further boost the operational readiness of the Lagos State Police Command, particularly in rapid deployment, patrol operations, emergency response, and tactical interventions across the state.

He said the gesture reflects a broader institutional understanding that effective security operations require continuous investment, strategic partnerships, and sustained support for frontline personnel tasked with protecting lives, infrastructure, and economic activities in Lagos State.

Over the years, the LSSTF has played a crucial role in supporting security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, by providing operational vehicles, communication gadgets, protective equipment, surveillance infrastructure, logistics support, and continuous capacity-building initiatives. These strategic interventions aim to strengthen operational efficiency and improve the rapid response capabilities of the police across Lagos State.
