Oyo Governor Visits Abducted School Children Families, Promises Rescue
Makinde Visits Abductees Families, Promises Safe Return

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reassured the families of the teachers and children abducted in Oriire Local Government Area that his administration will continue to exert every effort to ensure their safe return. The governor made this commitment on Saturday during a visit to L.A Basic School, Ahoro Esiele, where he condoled with the victims' families and relatives.

Governor Appeals for Unity and Understanding

Makinde appealed for the understanding and cooperation of the community, urging them not to blame the federal or state government but to unite for the successful rescue of the abductees. He sympathized with the affected families, noting that this incident marks the first time underage children have been abducted in Nigeria. The governor emphasized that while the families are deeply hurt, he shares their grief and concern, stating that the abductors' actions are cruel, unacceptable, and inhumane.

Security Efforts and Losses

The governor recalled that operatives of the Western Security Network, known as Amotekun, have lost their lives combating security challenges in the state. Since the abduction, he has been holding security meetings twice daily and working closely with security agencies to facilitate the victims' safe return. He commended service commanders for their support and dedication and called for more prayers.

Makinde said, “Don’t cry. I have come here today because of you. You installed this government. I want to let you know that this government is responsible to you. By the grace of God and your cooperation, we will bring back our children and the teachers.” He added, “Please, I want you to cooperate with us because we are doing everything humanly possible to get our children and teachers back.”

Avoid Blame, Focus on Rescue

The governor stressed, “This is not the time to start trading blame on who should be responsible for the release of these children between the state and federal government. This is just the time to come together to rescue our children and their teachers. I feel your pain but have trust in us.”

Emotional Appeals from Families

In emotional appeals, Professor Wole Alamu, husband of the abducted school principal; Mrs. Funmilayo Ojo, whose daughter-in-law and four grandchildren are among the captives; and Mr. Aliu Saidi, a relative of one victim, pleaded with the governor to use all his power to secure the safe return of their loved ones. The governor later held a private meeting with the families to discuss ongoing rescue efforts and reassure them of the government's commitment.

Entourage and Support

The governor was accompanied by several dignitaries, including Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi (APM governorship candidate), Hon. Stanley Olajide (federal constituency representative), Hon. Shina Peller (APM senatorial candidate), Hon. Olufemi Ajadi (APM senatorial candidate), Chief of Staff Otunba (Dr) Segun Ogunwuyi, Commissioner for Education Hon. Segun Olayiwola, Senior Executive Assistant Chief Bayo Lawal, and others. Traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, service commanders, and top government functionaries were also present.
