Governor Mutfwang Announces Emergency Toll-Free Hotlines for Plateau Security
In a decisive move to bolster security measures, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has announced plans to introduce emergency toll-free hotlines across the state. This initiative aims to empower residents by providing a direct communication channel to report suspicious activities and enhance rapid response to security threats.
Enhancing Community Cooperation
During a service at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Jos North Local Council, Governor Mutfwang reassured citizens of his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He emphasized that community cooperation is vital in addressing the persistent insecurity challenges facing Plateau State.
“The simple message is: see something, say something. We will be inaugurating hotlines in the coming days for citizens to share information, and we will respond decisively to all forms of criminality,” Mutfwang stated. He highlighted that this system will establish a direct link between the public and security agencies, facilitating quicker interventions.
Addressing Recent Security Incidents
Referring to the recent Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, the governor acknowledged the fear and pain experienced by residents. However, he reaffirmed the government’s resolve to maintain peace and stability, vowing not to be intimidated by such acts of violence.
“We will not be intimidated or cowed by fear. What the enemy intended for evil, God is turning around for His glory. Plateau will continue to rise higher and higher,” he declared. Mutfwang noted that the past week had been particularly challenging but assured that efforts are being intensified to improve security in both urban and rural communities.
“We are not resting on our oars. While we have taken significant steps to prevent further attacks, we will continue to strengthen our efforts to ensure that both our cities and villages are secure,” he added.
Tackling Drug Abuse Among Youths
Beyond security threats, Governor Mutfwang raised concerns over the increasing rate of drug abuse among youths in Plateau State. He called on religious and community leaders to collaborate with the government in tackling this pressing issue.
“One of the major challenges confronting us is the destruction of our young people by drugs and narcotics. I urge the church to partner with government to eliminate these agents of destruction,” he urged, highlighting the need for a multifaceted approach to community safety.
Advice for Residents
The governor also advised residents to take personal responsibility for their safety by avoiding unnecessary risks. He specifically warned against night mining activities, which expose individuals to heightened security threats.
“Let us take responsibility for our safety. Avoid dangerous situations and reduce exposure to risks,” Mutfwang cautioned, underscoring the importance of proactive measures in conjunction with government initiatives.
