The Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, has assured the public that the state government is intensifying efforts to determine the cause of the recurring chemical odour affecting schools in Ijebu-Ode. The incident, which first occurred earlier this year and was reported again last month, marks the third occurrence. Oresanya emphasized that the government is committed to gathering accurate facts to identify the source of the problem before implementing a permanent solution.
Students in Good Health
According to Oresanya, more than 60 students who were affected by the chemical odour on Tuesday have been treated and discharged. They are currently in good health and recuperating at their respective homes. The commissioner stated that the government is taking the matter seriously and will not rest until a lasting solution is found to prevent further disruptions to academic activities.
Parents Express Concerns
Meanwhile, concerned parents have called on the state government to find a lasting solution to the persistent chemical odour in Ijebu-Ode. They urged the government to provide adequate security measures in schools to guarantee the safety of students. Some parents warned that if the government cannot ensure the safety of their children, they may have no choice but to withdraw them from school. They stressed that providing security for citizens is a primary responsibility of the government.
