The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has initiated "Operation Safety on Ogun's 27 Major Traffic Corridors" in preparation for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The operation will run before, during, and after the festivities.
Strategic Deployment for Eid-el-Kabir
Acting Commander Elias Omonayajo announced in a statement that all Eid praying grounds across the state's 20 local councils will be strategically manned by operatives. This aims to ensure effective traffic control and parking management at entry and exit points.
The special patrol operation includes increased patrol visibility, strategic deployment of rescue and emergency teams, and intensified public advocacy campaigns to guide motorists during the festive period.
Monitoring and Corridors Covered
Omonayajo explained that the exercise involves monitoring motorists and road users, including operators of high and low-capacity vehicles, due to the expected increase in human and vehicular movement.
The affected corridors include:
- Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
- Interchange-Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin-Ore Expressway
- Sango/Ota-Atan-Owode-Idiroko Highway
- Atan-Lusada-Agbara-Badagry Highway
- Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun-Interchange Expressway
- Abeokuta-Ewekoro-Ifo-Sango/Ota Expressway
- Rounder-Abeokuta-Olorunda-Ayetoro-Imeko-Ilara Border Road, among others
Advice to Motorists
Omonayajo urged motorists to drive cautiously, exercise patience, consider other road users, and obey diversion rules in areas with ongoing rehabilitation works, particularly on the Ota-Idiroko, Sagamu-Ajebandele, Sagamu-Papalanto-Ilaro-Obelle, and Ikorodu-Sagamu roads.
He stressed that the exercise aims to strengthen collaboration among safety and security agencies through initiatives such as the TRACE Traffic Whistle Blower Initiative, TRACE Emergency Traffic Service, and the Community-Based Traffic Management Scheme (TRACE MAYORS). According to him, road safety remains a shared responsibility.
The TRACE boss also directed field commanders to ensure operatives remain civil, professional, fair, and firm in carrying out their duties. He advised drivers against drunk driving, excessive speeding, and night travel. He further warned that any vehicle impounded for traffic violations during the celebration will not be released until Monday, June 1, 2026.
Three Injured in Truck Crash
Meanwhile, three persons sustained injuries in an auto crash at Eleja along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. The accident involved a Howo truck and a Mazda 323 taxi with registration number ABB 700 XY.
TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed in a statement that five occupants were involved in the crash, which occurred on Monday. He attributed the accident to overspeeding by the truck driver, resulting in loss of control. According to Akinbiyi, the Mazda taxi driver veered off the road into a bush and struck a pole while attempting to avoid a head-on collision with the truck.
The victims were rescued by good Samaritans and taken to an undisclosed hospital, while the affected vehicle was evacuated by police to Obada Police Station for further investigation.
