Attack in Gembu Leaves One Police Officer Dead and Three Civilians Injured
A police officer was killed and three civilians sustained injuries in an attack carried out by unidentified gunmen in Gembu, the administrative headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Area in Taraba State. Local Government Imposes Night Curfew
In response to the attack, the Sardauna Local Government Council has imposed a night curfew on Gembu town. The decision was made on the directive of the council chairman, Hon. J. Umar, as communicated in a letter dated July 6, 2026, and signed by the Director of Administration and General Services, Mr. Eric Mathew Vakude.
The curfew restricts movement within Gembu from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily until further notice. The statement emphasized that the measure is intended to protect lives and property in the wake of the deadly assault.
Residents Urged to Cooperate with Security Forces
Authorities have called on residents to remain calm, strictly comply with the curfew, and cooperate with security agencies that are working to restore peace and maintain law and order in the town.
