Operatives of the Gombe State Police Command have rescued an 8-year-old boy and arrested four suspects in connection with his abduction in Akko Local Government Area. The victim was reunited with his family unharmed following a swift intelligence-led operation.
Incident and Initial Response
The boy's father, Alhaji Muhammadu Nabadara, reported the incident at the Akko Divisional Police Headquarters on June 28, 2026, after his son left home the previous day and did not return. Detectives immediately launched an investigation and intensified efforts to trace the missing child. On June 29, the family received a misleading phone call about the victim's location, which was later found to be false.
Breakthrough and Arrests
Intelligence-led operations led to a breakthrough on June 30, when operatives arrested the first suspect, Abdullahi Mohammed, at Jauro Musa Quarters, Kumo. During interrogation, Mohammed confessed to conspiring with three others: Mohammed Magaji (35), Sale Sale (23), and Walida Ya'u (18), all from Kagarawal Quarters, Gombe. The three accomplices were subsequently arrested, and the victim was found in their custody, unharmed.
Police spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi confirmed the rescue in a statement on July 2, 2026, noting that the victim had been reunited with his family. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion.
Commendation and Public Appeal
Commissioner of Police Umar Ahmed Chuso commended the professionalism and swift response of the operatives. He reassured residents of the Command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
