12 Dead in Yangoji-Abuja Road Crash, FRSC Blames Speeding
12 Killed in Fatal Crash on Yangoji-Abuja Road

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially confirmed the tragic loss of twelve lives in a devastating multiple vehicle accident along the busy Yangoji-Abuja corridor.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The catastrophic event occurred at Gada Biyu, along the Yangoji–Abuja (YGJ–ABJ) road, on Sunday, 11 January, 2026, at approximately 11:45am. According to a detailed statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Segun Ogungbemide, the collision involved four vehicles: a commercial trailer loaded with coal, a commercial bus, and two commercial cars.

Cause and Immediate Aftermath

Preliminary investigation by FRSC officials points directly to speed violation and dangerous driving as the primary causes. The driver of the coal-laden trailer was reportedly operating the vehicle at an excessive speed, far beyond the legal limit designated for that stretch of road.

This reckless action led to a catastrophic loss of control. The speeding trailer then smashed into other vehicles that were already parked on the roadside, triggering a chain reaction that resulted in the fatal road crash.

Casualty Figures and Rescue Efforts

The human cost of the incident is severe. A total of eighteen people were involved in the accident. The FRSC report provides a grim breakdown of the outcomes:

  • Five victims died instantly at the scene of the collision.
  • Seven others were successfully rescued from the wreckage and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Tragically, they later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to twelve.
  • Three individuals sustained injuries of varying severity, including bruises, cuts, fractures, and head injuries. They are currently receiving medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition.

This tragic incident on a major corridor leading to the nation's capital serves as another stark reminder of the consequences of traffic law violations. The FRSC continues to urge all motorists to prioritize safety, observe speed limits, and avoid dangerous driving maneuvers to prevent such needless loss of life.
