The Adamawa State Police Command has issued a stern warning to all road users following a disturbing increase in fatal and dangerous accidents on highways and urban roads.
Police Identify Causes of Rising Accidents
According to official statements released on Sunday, 11 January 2026, investigations by the Command have pinpointed the primary culprits behind the surge in crashes. Reckless driving, overspeeding, dangerous overtaking, and illegal road racing involving both cars and power bikes are to blame for the tragic incidents.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC, has directed a clear message to every motorist, commercial driver, motorcycle rider, and pedestrian. He insists on strict adherence to all traffic laws and regulations at all times to safeguard lives.
Enforcement and Arrests Intensified
The Police Command has now ramped up efforts to enforce a total ban on power bike and vehicle racing on all public roads within Adamawa State. CP Morris emphasised that anyone caught participating in these illegal activities will face immediate arrest and prosecution under the full weight of the law.
To ensure compliance, officers from the Central Motor Traffic Division (CMTD), all divisional police units, and other operational commands have received direct orders. They are to increase patrols, surveillance, and enforcement actions, with special focus on:
- Major highways across the state
- Busy urban roads
- All identified accident-prone areas
Public Cooperation Urged
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Command made a passionate appeal to the public. Citizens are encouraged to assist the police by promptly reporting instances of reckless driving and illegal racing.
The police also called on parents, transport union leaders, and vehicle owners to play their part. They are urged to consistently caution their children, drivers, and riders about the severe dangers and potentially deadly consequences of irresponsible behaviour on the road.
