Multiple Crashes on Bauchi-Jos Highway Leave 11 Dead and 32 Injured
The Bauchi State Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a tragic incident involving multiple auto crashes that resulted in the loss of eleven lives and injuries to thirty-two others. The crashes occurred on Friday, April 17, 2026, at approximately 06:40 PM along the Bauchi – Jos Federal Highway, specifically at Panshanu Hill.
Details of the Incident and FRSC Response
According to an official statement from the FRSC, the collision involved two vehicles: a white MAN mini-tanker belonging to the Nigerian Police fleet and a white J5 Boxer bus with registration number KTU624XY, used for commercial purposes. The crash took place on a single carriageway with an unpaved condition, leading to the vehicles bursting into flames and victims being burnt.
The FRSC reported that the incident was notified to them at 06:44 PM, with personnel arriving at the scene by 06:54 PM, taking just ten minutes to respond. The probable causes of the crash were identified as dangerous driving and worn-out tyres, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns in the area.
Casualty Breakdown and Medical Response
A total of forty-three people were involved in the crashes, comprising 12 male adults, 19 female adults, 5 male children, and 7 female children. Of these, 11 individuals lost their lives, including 1 male adult, 3 male children, 5 female adults, and 2 female children. The 32 injured victims included 5 male children, 19 female adults, 7 female children, and 1 male adult.
Following the crashes, the FRSC cleared the obstruction and took immediate action to provide medical assistance. All victims were transported to Toro General Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were deposited at the same facility for further procedures.
