A fatal road traffic accident has resulted in one death and left eighteen people with injuries in Adamawa State. The crash involved a Toyota Hummer bus and occurred on the busy Yola-Kano highway.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The accident took place on Friday, January 17, 2026. The vehicle involved was a Toyota Hummer bus with the registration number BLD 471 XL. It was carrying a total of 19 persons: the driver, 14 male passengers, and 5 female passengers.

Confirming the incident, the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Numan, Assistant Corps Commander Idi Timothy, provided the grim details. He stated that the lone fatality was a passenger who was a citizen of the Republic of Cameroon. The victim succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash.

Rescue Operation and Preliminary Findings

The FRSC operatives swiftly responded to the scene. All 18 surviving passengers were rescued and immediately transported to the General Hospital in Numan for urgent medical attention. They are currently receiving treatment for varying degrees of injuries.

According to ACC Timothy, preliminary investigations by the Corps point to over-speeding as the primary cause of the single-vehicle accident. He used the opportunity to caution all motorists against the dangerous habit of speeding.

Aftermath and Road Safety Plea

In a related development, FRSC officials recovered the sum of N40,000 and 300,000 CFA francs belonging to the deceased at the crash site. This money was handed over to his relatives. Abdulrazak Bilyaminu, who identified himself as the younger brother of the victim, confirmed the death while receiving the recovered funds.

The body of the deceased was subsequently released to the family for burial rites. The FRSC commander reiterated the Corps's commitment to promoting safety on Nigerian roads. He urged all road users to strictly comply with traffic rules and regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies that lead to loss of lives and property.

The FRSC also advised motorists to exercise caution at all times, emphasizing that responsible driving is a collective duty for everyone using the highways.
