Several high-ranking terrorist commanders and more than 50 insurgents have been killed in coordinated air strikes by troops under Operation Hadin Kai in the Lake Chad region, according to military sources.
The strikes were executed on May 31 around the Kirta and Arina Ciki axis following credible intelligence on heightened terrorist activities, reported counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama.
Targeted Enclaves and Logistics
The operation targeted key insurgent enclaves, logistics hubs, and supply routes used by terrorists to sustain operations across the Lake Chad Basin. Post-strike assessments confirmed the neutralization of Khalifa Umar, a prominent Shura Council member from Sigir, along with field commanders Abdallah and Abduljalil.
Major Setback for Terror Network
The offensive eliminated over 50 insurgents, dealing a major setback to the terror network. Several logistics facilities, supply depots, and life-support structures were destroyed, further degrading the group's operational capacity.
The sustained aerial bombardment has intensified pressure on insurgent groups, forcing many fighters to abandon island hideouts for vulnerable mainland positions. Security sources describe the situation as "calm but fluid," emphasizing the need for continued vigilance.
Despite the volatile environment, sources expressed confidence in troop combat readiness and operational effectiveness. The success is expected to consolidate recent gains by the Nigerian Armed Forces and reinforce efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
