Army dismantles suicide bombing network in Adamawa

In a significant blow to terrorist activities in the North East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully dismantled a suicide bombing network and intercepted a major consignment of logistics meant for terrorists in Adamawa State.

Major Breakthrough in Gamboru Market Bombing Investigation

According to a statement issued on Monday, January 5, 2025, by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, the operations are part of intensified cordon-and-search efforts. These efforts specifically target the perpetrators and facilitators of the recent suicide bombing at the Gamboru Market mosque.

The troops executed a coordinated operation in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area in the early hours of January 5, 2026. This action led to the arrest of eight suspects. Among those apprehended were two principal suspects believed to be the key facilitators within the suicide bombing network.

A subsequent search of the suspects' residence yielded crucial evidence, including cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, and jewellery. All recovered items are currently undergoing forensic analysis to aid the ongoing investigation.

Identification and Logistics Interception

During identification procedures, a suspect already in military custody positively identified the two principal arrestees as the individuals who supplied materials used in preparing the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) for the attack. Other occupants of the raided residence were also linked to the terrorist network.

All suspects remain in military custody for detailed interrogation to gather further intelligence before being transferred for continued investigation.

In a separate but related development, OPHK troops scored another victory on January 4, 2026. They intercepted a large consignment of suspected terrorists' logistics in Mayo Nguli, located in the Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The troops seized 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), totalling approximately 1,125 litres, suspected to have been smuggled for terrorist activities. The suppliers reportedly fled upon sighting the advancing troops, abandoning the petroleum products, which are now in military custody.

Resolve and Call for Public Vigilance

The successful operations were conducted without any incident or casualties recorded. The military authorities stated that these achievements underscore OPHK's unwavering resolve to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their logistics and supply chains, prevent future attacks, and ensure all perpetrators and collaborators are brought to justice.

The Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security agencies. Public support is emphasized as being critical to sustaining security and peace across the North East region.
