Bauchi State in Mourning After Two Tragic Incidents

The Bauchi State government is reeling from a double tragedy that has claimed the life of Governor Bala Mohammed's Special Adviser on Higher Education, Yakubu Ibrahim, and the two children of former Deputy Governor Baba Tela. Ibrahim died in Abuja after a prolonged illness, while Mustapha and Ummi Tela lost their lives in a road accident on July 4, 2026, along the Bauchi–Azare Road as they returned from Azare.

Governor Bala Mohammed Expresses Condolences

Governor Bala Mohammed described the late Yakubu Ibrahim as a distinguished public servant whose life was defined by integrity, humility, selfless service and an unrelenting passion for the advancement of education. According to a statement by the Governor's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said: “His death is a painful loss not only to his immediate family but also to the Government and people of Bauchi State and the nation at large.”

Former Deputy Governor Loses Two Children in Road Accident

Governor Bala also sympathized with former Deputy Governor Baba Tela following the death of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a road accident. He described the incident as a painful tragedy that had cast a shadow of grief over the state. The governor assured Tela of the support, prayers and solidarity of the state government and people during the difficult period. “The Governor said the loss of two young lives in such a tragic circumstance is not only a devastating blow to Senator Baba Tela and his immediate family but also a painful loss to the entire people of Bauchi State,” Gidado's statement added.

Governor Extends Sympathies to Injured Victims

The governor also extended his sympathies to those affected by the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the fatal crash. The Bauchi State government has pledged to provide necessary support to the bereaved families.

In a related development, Governor Oyebanji had earlier mourned the passing of an influential APC leader, Senator Anthony Adeniyi, who died at age 75.
