Bishop Condemns Government's 'Prodigal Sons' View on Terrorists

Catholic Bishop Jude Arogundade of the Ondo Diocese has expressed deep disappointment with the Federal Government's characterization of bandits and terrorists as 'prodigal sons' deserving of a second chance. Speaking after a Palm Sunday Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Akure, Arogundade labeled the government's position as not only saddening but also an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians, indicating a lack of serious commitment to addressing the nation's security challenges.

Call for Action Against Insecurity in Ondo State

Bishop Arogundade further urged Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to implement effective strategies to combat the rising tide of kidnapping and other security threats, particularly in light of a recent attack on a health facility in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure. He emphasized that both federal and state governments must do more to protect the lives and properties of citizens, expressing concern over the increasing incidents of kidnapping and the gradual encroachment of bandits into the state capital.

Army Chief Orders Sustained Military Operations

In a related development, Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen Waidi Shaibu has directed troops and other security agencies across Nigeria to maintain relentless, proactive, and intelligence-driven operations against terrorists and criminal elements. According to a statement by Acting Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Appolonia Anele, Shaibu issued this directive during an address to troops at Shadawanka Barracks in Bauchi, stressing the importance of operational readiness and troop welfare in the fight against insecurity.
