In a devastating new wave of violence, suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed at least eight people and left four others missing following coordinated assaults on three communities in Adamawa State.
Details of the Christmas Season Attacks
The latest attacks, which occurred on the night of Monday, December 29, targeted the villages of Zah, Kijing, and Mubang in the Hong Local Government Area. This marks the third such incident in the region during the recent Christmas period, following earlier violence in the nearby Mayo Ladde and Garaha districts.
Local sources reported that the assailants destroyed numerous homes and business premises, forcing residents to flee into the bush for safety. The attacks happened before security forces could intervene.
Official Confirmation and Response
The Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda, confirmed the grim toll. "It is true. Boko Haram attacked Mubang, Zah, and Kijing villages in Hong. For now, eight corpses have been recovered from the three villages, and four persons are still missing," Wa’aganda stated.
While the Adamawa State Police Command has not issued an official statement, security sources indicate that additional personnel have been deployed to the affected areas. Their mandate is to protect the remaining residents, pursue the attackers, and restore calm.
Ongoing Security Challenges
This incident underscores the persistent security threats faced by communities in northeastern Nigeria. The repeated attacks during the festive season highlight the vulnerability of these areas and the ongoing challenge of containing terrorist activities.
The situation remains tense as search operations continue for the four missing individuals and displaced residents assess the damage to their properties and livelihoods.
