ISWAP Suspects Arrested, Admit Abduction and Attacks

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with local hunters, have arrested two suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The arrests were made following credible intelligence, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

Arrest Details

The suspects were apprehended at approximately 9:05 a.m. on June 1, 2026, in Garkida. They have been identified as Mallam Babangida Abubakar, aged 30, and Abdullahi Yusuf, aged 18. Preliminary interrogation indicates that both suspects confessed to involvement in several terrorist activities within the North-East region.

Confessions and Crimes

Babangida Abubakar admitted to participating in the abduction of school children in Mussa and the attack on Leho Village in Askira Local Government Area of Borno State. Similarly, Abdullahi Yusuf confessed to taking part in an attack on Tellabala Village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Current Status

Security sources confirmed that the suspects are currently in the custody of the 247 Reconnaissance Battalion for further investigation. “The suspects were picked up following credible intelligence and are assisting investigators with useful information,” the source said.
