Senior Men's 100m: A Historic Dead Heat
In the Senior Men's 100m, anticipation was sky-high following the heats, where Tejiri Godwin set a blistering pace with a PB of 10.29s, closely trailed by Chidera Ezeakor at 10.31s and Enoch Adegoke at 10.34s. The final delivered an unforgettable moment when Ezeakor and Adegoke crossed the finish line in an identical time of 10.15s, resulting in a thrilling dead heat that saw them share the championship title. This performance marked a new personal best for Ezeakor, showcasing his peak form. Osama Chibueze secured third place with a lifetime best of 10.35s, rounding out a fiercely competitive race.
Senior Women's 100m: Omokwe's Stunning Victory
Maria Thompson Omokwe stole the spotlight in the Senior Women's 100m, surging to victory with a stunning PB of 11.26s. Her time matches the fastest recorded on Nigerian soil in 2026, previously set by Miracle Ezechukwu, highlighting her elite speed. Omokwe demonstrated remarkable consistency, improving from 11.35s in the semi-finals to deliver her best run when it mattered most. Janet Sunday finished second with a PB of 11.66s, while Omoyemi Lydia Ajayi-Bibilomo also achieved a lifetime best of 11.69s to claim third place, making it a podium sweep of personal achievements.
Junior Categories: Rising Stars Shine
The Junior races were equally electrifying, with young athletes showcasing their talent. In the Junior Women's 100m, Ejiro Peter claimed the title in 11.39s, having earlier set a PB of 11.29s in the semi-finals. She was followed by Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo with 11.48s and Team MTN's Lucy Nwankwo at 11.57s. For the Junior Men's 100m, Abdulrahman Adewale Jimoh powered to victory with a PB of 10.57s, while Liberty Okon impressed with a PB of 10.62s to finish second, and Team MTN's Alvin Onyeama secured third place in 10.66s.
400m Hurdles: Additional Highlights
Beyond the 100m events, the 400m hurdles provided more excitement. In the Senior Men's category, Ndiponke Okure, Sodiq Adebisi, and Olorunwa Olowu finished as the top three, demonstrating endurance and skill. Meanwhile, in the Junior race, Oseiwe Salami dominated with a lifetime best of 51.60s to claim gold, ahead of Ibrahim Muhammed and Solomon Eloghosa Okundaye, who took silver and bronze respectively, adding to the day's array of standout performances.
