Why Bendancer Is Attempting the World's Longest Dance Record
Bendancer's Quest for Longest Dance Record

Nigerian dancer and choreographer Benjamin Daniel, widely known as Bendancer, has opened up about his motivation for attempting the Guinness World Record for the longest dance by an individual. The Bauchi-born creative stated that his decision stems from a sense of purpose rather than mere ambition, as he hopes to inspire people across various fields.

Driven by Purpose

Speaking exclusively with Guardian Life, Bendancer explained, “I am attempting the Guinness World Record for the longest dance by an individual. I am doing it alone because I believe change begins with me. If I can do it, it will inspire many others, not just in the dance industry but other professions too.” With over 18 years of experience in dance, his journey began at a young age and gradually evolved into a full-fledged career.

Early Challenges in Bauchi

Bendancer recalled the difficulties he faced growing up in Bauchi, including limited access to resources and exposure. “To be honest, it was not an easy journey. There was lack of internet, mentors and funding at the early stage of my career. I am from Bauchi, and the social exposure then was not what it is today,” he said. Despite these obstacles, consistency and determination helped him build a career that has taken him across global stages and led to the founding of Bendancer Academy International.

Dance as a Tool for Culture and Healing

For Bendancer, dance transcends performance. “For me, dance is beyond entertainment. It is spiritual. It has the ability to heal. As dancers, we are custodians of culture. It helps us tell the story of our ancestors and preserve our culture for the next generation,” he emphasized. Over the years, he has expanded into fitness, fashion, and creative direction, which have contributed to his growth.

Role in the Kuti Music Dynasty

One of the defining moments of his career is his role within the Kuti music dynasty. “I am the first and only male dance artist in the history of the Kuti family. From Fela Kuti to Femi and Seun, none had a male dance artist. It is a defining moment in my career and gives recognition to my contribution to Afrobeat culture globally,” he noted.

Preparing for the Record Attempt

To prepare for the record attempt, Bendancer has intensified his training. “I am doing swimming, meditation, gym workouts, yoga, boxing and running for endurance physically, emotionally and mentally,” he said. Through his academy, he focuses on shaping the next generation of dancers by exposing them to both creative and business aspects of the craft.

Building a Legacy

Looking ahead, Bendancer aims to build a legacy that inspires young people to dream bigger. “I want to write my name in the sand of time and in the heart of history. I want to create a legacy that inspires every young artist to believe they can achieve greatness, even from small places,” he concluded.
