Simón's remarkable run began at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he kept a clean sheet for 159 minutes before Spain exited to Morocco in a penalty shootout—without conceding during 120 minutes of play. He carried that streak into the 2026 tournament, adding 360 minutes from four consecutive clean sheets against Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, and Austria. The 3-0 win over Austria, in which Mikel Oyarzabal scored twice and Pedro Porro added another, sent Spain into the last 16 and sealed the record.
