Enugu Rangers were crowned champions of the Nigerian Premier Football League after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City in Lagos on Sunday. The win ensured the Flying Antelopes clinched the 2025/26 title, finishing one point ahead of closest rivals Rivers United.
Match Highlights
Rangers needed the win to secure the crown regardless of Rivers United's result against Katsina United in Port Harcourt. The visitors took control early when captain Obinna Nwobodo scored a clinical finish in the 17th minute, sending fans into celebration. Despite dominating possession, Rangers faced a resilient Ikorodu City defense and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Early in the second half, Rangers doubled their advantage through a long-range effort by Nwobodo that was spilled onto the path of an onrushing attacker, who made no mistake. However, Ikorodu City pulled one back when goalkeeper Lucky Jimoh inexplicably dropped a cross onto the leg of a striker, making it 2-1. The home side pushed for an equalizer to keep their CAF Confederation Cup hopes alive but failed to find the net.
