Former Liverpool Star Jordan Ibe Faces Bodily Harm Charges, Court Date Announced
Former Liverpool winger Jordan Ibe has been formally charged with actual bodily harm in connection with an alleged assault that occurred in December 2025. The 30-year-old footballer, who currently plays for Lokomotiv Sofia in Bulgaria, was arrested by English police officers at Luton Airport upon his return to the United Kingdom.
Arrest and Charges Details
According to reports from Sun Sports, the incident in question took place on December 14, 2025. Ibe was detained at Luton Airport on January 30 after traveling from his Bulgarian club. A spokesperson for the former Liverpool star confirmed that he has been charged with actual bodily harm related to this alleged assault.
The Metropolitan Police stated that Ibe has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear before Croydon Magistrates Court on March 6. The arrest occurred when Ibe returned to the UK to handle what has been described as a separate legal matter.
Ibe's Football Career and Personal Challenges
Jordan Ibe's professional journey has been marked by both success and personal struggles. The London-born player joined Liverpool as a teenager in 2012 and made 54 senior appearances for the Reds before securing a £15 million transfer to AFC Bournemouth in 2016 - a club-record fee at the time.
During his four seasons with Bournemouth, Ibe made 93 appearances across all competitions, including 78 in the English Premier League, scoring five goals. His move to Lokomotiv Sofia in November 2025 represents his 13th professional club, continuing what has been described as a nomadic career path.
The former England U21 international has been open about his mental health challenges. In 2021, Ibe revealed he had suffered from depression for four years, stating: "I've found myself in a dark place due to suffering from depression. It's no scheme for the media or to have my name in your mouths, I just find things hard, truly."
He added: "I will fix myself and this situation, which I'm 100 per cent committed to. Not only for my family, close friends and daughter but for me."
Previous Legal Issues
This is not Ibe's first encounter with legal authorities. The former Bournemouth star previously admitted to improperly obtaining a prescription to access the insomnia drug Zolpidem. For this offense, he was fined £230 at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court in north London.
Despite these challenges, Ibe has continued his professional football career, most recently signing a two-year contract with Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Sofia after opting out of non-league outfit Sittingbourne.
The upcoming court appearance on March 6 will determine the next steps in this latest legal matter involving the former Liverpool and Bournemouth winger.
