Klopp Set to Become New Germany Coach After World Cup

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has agreed to become the new head coach of the Germany national football team, following the departure of Julian Nagelsmann after the country's disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign. The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed on Friday that it has begun talks with Klopp after parting ways with Nagelsmann, who stepped down in the wake of Germany's shock Round of 32 elimination to Paraguay.

DFB Confirms Talks with Klopp

The DFB stated that Klopp has already indicated his willingness in principle to take over the role. “Regarding the appointment of a new coach, the DFB leadership will now seek talks with Jürgen Klopp. He has already signaled his general willingness to take on the position,” the DFB said in an official statement.

Klopp's Career and Current Role

Klopp stepped down as Liverpool manager in the summer of 2024, after almost nine years in charge, to take a break from management. The German, who led Liverpool to Champions League and Premier League honors, is currently under contract as Red Bull's head of global football. However, Sky Germany reports that he has a verbal agreement which would allow him to leave to take up the Germany job.

The 58-year-old's appointment marks a significant move for German football, as the national team seeks to rebuild after an early World Cup exit. Klopp's experience and success at club level make him a highly sought-after candidate for the role.
