Ademola Lookman: Fenerbahce Targets €45m Transfer After AFCON 2025 Heroics
Lookman Linked with €45m Fenerbahce Move After AFCON

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has emerged as a major transfer target for Turkish giants Fenerbahce following his exceptional displays at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations currently being held in Morocco.

Fenerbahce's Multi-Million Euro Pursuit

Reports from both Italian and Turkish media indicate that Fenerbahce are advancing in their efforts to sign the 28-year-old attacker from Serie A side Atalanta. The negotiations are reportedly focused on a transfer worth up to €45 million.

The Turkish club's preference is understood to be a loan arrangement that includes an option to make the move permanent later. However, Atalanta are said to be pushing for an immediate and outright sale. Italian sources claim the Bergamo club is demanding the full €45 million as a lump-sum payment.

In contrast, Fenerbahce are exploring a structured deal that would involve an initial €5 million loan fee, followed by a €37 million obligation to buy. The head of football operations for the Istanbul side, Ertan Torunogullari, is expected to lead direct talks with Atalanta to finalize the payment terms.

Lookman's AFCON 2025 Dominance

The transfer interest is directly fueled by Lookman's phenomenal form in Morocco. According to tournament statistics, the forward has been one of Nigeria's standout performers, playing a pivotal role in the Super Eagles' campaign.

His contributions so far are impressive: three goals and four assists, which have also earned him two Man of the Match awards. Across his last two AFCON tournaments, Lookman has now tallied six goals and five assists, proving his consistency and threat on Africa's biggest stage.

This tournament performance has significantly boosted his market value. His current salary at Atalanta is around €2.5 million per season, but Fenerbahce is reportedly prepared to offer a substantial raise, with figures as high as €9 million per season being mentioned.

Transfer Complications and National Team Impact

Despite the strong interest, the transfer faces hurdles. Respected Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reported that Atalanta has not yet received a formal offer and intends to keep Lookman for the remainder of their season unless an exceptionally high bid arrives.

For the Nigerian national team, Lookman's peak form is a tremendous boost as they chase a fourth continental title. His combination of goals, assists, and on-field leadership makes him the team's most influential player at the tournament.

Fenerbahce views the 2024 CAF Men's Player of the Year as a potential marquee signing capable of making an immediate impact in both the Turkish Super Lig and European competitions. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the Turkish club can secure the signature of one of Africa's hottest properties.
