The 2025/26 football season across major European leagues concluded on Sunday, May 24, 2026, with several decisive outcomes on the final day. Arsenal, who clinched the Premier League title on May 19, sealed their championship with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas's Como secured a historic UEFA Champions League berth for the first time, overtaking AC Milan and Juventus on the final matchday.
Super Eagles Players Relegated in 2025/26
Despite the excitement of the season, some Nigerian internationals endured disappointing ends to their campaigns, suffering relegation with their clubs. Here are four Super Eagles stars who were relegated in the 2025/26 season.
Tolu Arokodare
Arokodare joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from KRC Genk at the start of the season for a fee of £24 million. However, the move proved disastrous as Wolves finished rock bottom of the Premier League table. The striker struggled for playing time, which led to him losing his place in the Super Eagles squad and being omitted from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations squad.
Chidozie Awaziem
Awaziem, a veteran defender who played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Nigeria, joined FC Nantes from MLS side Colorado Rapids at the start of the season. Unfortunately, he could not prevent the French club from suffering relegation.
Joe Aribo
Aribo experienced back-to-back relegations, sliding down the English football pyramid. After being relegated with Southampton in the 2024/25 season, he was loaned to Leicester City, who also suffered relegation to League One. Leicester City confirmed that Aribo will leave at the end of his loan spell, with his Southampton contract expiring on June 30.
Rafiu Durosinmi
Durosinmi joined struggling Serie A side Pisa in January 2026 but could not help the team avoid relegation to Serie B. The midfielder was tipped to be part of Eric Chelle's AFCON 2025 squad but missed out. He earned his first call-up for the 2026 Unity Cup squad.
In contrast, some Super Eagles stars enjoyed success, winning league titles in Europe. Victor Osimhen won the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray, while Kelechi Iheanacho was instrumental in Celtic's Scottish Premiership triumph.
