The Tunisian Football Federation has reportedly dismissed manager Sabri Lamouchi after just one match at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decision comes in the wake of a devastating 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opening group stage fixture in Monterrey.
Emergency Meeting After Crushing Defeat
According to New York Times journalist Romain Molina, the FTF convened an emergency meeting immediately following the heavy defeat to Sweden. The meeting concluded with the decision to terminate Lamouchi's contract. Molina stated, "It's the end for Sabri Lamouchi at the helm of the Tunisian national team."
Lamouchi's Brief Tenure
The 54-year-old French-born coach was appointed after Sami Trabelsi was dismissed following Tunisia's round-of-16 exit at the Africa Cup of Nations. Lamouchi's tenure lasted only five matches, beginning with a victory over Haiti. However, the team then struggled offensively, failing to win against Canada, Austria, Belgium, and Sweden.
Tunisia's next World Cup match is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, against Japan. The federation will now search for a new manager to lead the team for the remainder of the tournament.
