Nigeria Set for 2026 Commonwealth Games Trials in Lagos

All is set for the 2026 Commonwealth Games national trials, which will take place from June 20 to 22, 2026, at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Yaba, Lagos, according to the organisers. The three-day championship will serve as the official selection event for Nigerian athletes seeking qualification and representation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Selection Process

According to the National Sports Commission (NSC), the trials are expected to attract some of the nation's finest track and field athletes, providing a competitive platform to showcase talent, achieve qualifying standards, and earn places on Team Nigeria. Among the notable athletes expected to participate are Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Fakorede Adekalu, Tyler Johnson, and Ogundiran Blessing, alongside several other elite and emerging stars who continue to raise the profile of Nigerian athletics on the international stage.

NSC Commitment

Speaking at the event, the National Sports Commission reiterated its commitment to a transparent, competitive, and world-class selection process that reflects excellence and fairness, while strengthening Nigeria's preparations for Glasgow 2026. The Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland.
