Prophet Sam Olu-Alo Donates ₦2 Million to Boost Grassroots Sports in Ekiti
Cleric Donates ₦2m for Ekiti Grassroots Sports

In a significant boost for youth sports in Ekiti State, prominent cleric and media entrepreneur Prophet Sam Olu-Alo has committed a substantial financial donation to foster development at the grassroots level.

₦2 Million Pledged for School Football Tournament

Prophet Sam Olu-Alo, the Planter of Adamimogo Grace of Mercy Prayer Mountain Worldwide and owner of Adamimogo FM Nigeria, donated the sum of ₦2 million. The funds were channeled through the Sam Olu-Alo Unity Football Competition, organized for secondary schools within the Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state.

The final disbursement of awards took place during the tournament's final match, held in the prophet's hometown of Ido-Ekiti on December 27, 2025. In a thrilling final encounter, Elo High School from Ayetoro-Ekiti clinched the championship title after defeating Notre Dame Grammar School, Usi-Ekiti, with a 2–1 scoreline.

Cash Prizes and Calls for Greater Support

Following the match, Prophet Olu-Alo presented cash rewards to the top-performing schools. Elo High School received ₦200,000 for first place, while Notre Dame Grammar School got ₦150,000 as the runner-up. The third and fourth-placed schools, Oganganmodu Grammar School and Methodist Comprehensive High School, were awarded ₦100,000 and ₦50,000 respectively.

Outstanding individual players were also recognized with plaques and additional cash prizes, bringing the total value of all awards to approximately ₦2 million. Addressing the gathering, Olu-Alo urged young people in the community to actively embrace sports. He emphasized that the sports sector is undergoing a positive transformation that can provide sustainable livelihoods for talented youth.

Coordinator Highlights Benefits, Criticizes Apathy

The Competition Coordinator, Hon. Deji Ogunbusuyi, commended Prophet Olu-Alo for his generous sponsorship. He stated that such initiatives play a dual role in stimulating grassroots sports development and helping to reduce crime rates among young people by engaging them productively.

However, Ogunbusuyi expressed disappointment with the attitude of some school principals. He accused them of showing a lackadaisical approach towards sports development, failing to invest in their students' athletic talents while being eager to benefit from prize money won through the students' hard work.

He made a strong appeal to school administrators across the state, urging them to actively support their students by encouraging participation in sporting activities and creating an enabling environment for young talents to be discovered and nurtured.
