Tinubu Inaugurates Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, Hails Lagos as National Infrastructure Model

President Bola Tinubu has officially inaugurated the newly completed Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge in Lagos, emphatically describing the critical infrastructure as a tangible symbol of progress and a powerful catalyst for economic growth within Nigeria's bustling commercial capital. The significant 5.04-kilometre transport corridor, originally conceived and planned during Tinubu's own tenure as the Governor of Lagos State back in 2002, was finally completed and delivered under the current administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. This major project was unveiled to the public alongside several other key initiatives during the president's comprehensive working visit to the state.

A Bridge to Economic Opportunities and Improved Livelihoods

Speaking passionately at the landmark commissioning event, President Tinubu declared that Lagos State continues to decisively set the national pace in exemplary infrastructure delivery and innovative urban development. "The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is fundamentally more than just physical infrastructure; it is essentially a bridge to vast opportunities and improved livelihoods. In an intensely busy and dynamic metropolis like Lagos, efficient vehicular movement is not merely about daily commuting; it is directly and inextricably tied to the economic well-being and prosperity of every resident," he stated authoritatively.

He further emphasised with conviction that the dramatically improved traffic flow resulting from this project will substantially boost overall productivity, vigorously support local businesses, and meaningfully enhance general living standards for countless citizens. Tinubu added that this strategic project reflects a much broader and deeper commitment to genuinely people-centred governance and sustainable development.

Commissioning of Complementary Governance Projects

Represented at the ceremony by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu also formally commissioned the modern Lagos State Geographic Information System (LAGIS) Building and a sprawling multi-agency administrative complex situated in Alausa, Ikeja. In a notable tribute, the administrative complex was officially named the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex (BATAC) in recognition of his foundational and transformative contributions to Lagos's monumental development over the decades.

Tinubu thoughtfully noted that the advanced LAGIS facility represents a decisive shift towards transparent, efficient, and technology-driven land administration, perfectly aligning with his administration's overarching Renewed Hope Agenda which is sharply focused on digital governance and accelerated economic growth.

Governor Sanwo-Olu Details Strategic Project Benefits

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the trio of projects as strategic, long-term investments meticulously aimed at radically improving urban mobility, enhancing governance efficiency, and elevating public service delivery. He explained that the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge will effectively ease chronic congestion along key arterial routes such as Ikeja, Maryland, and Ojota, while thoughtfully incorporating modern features including:

  • Dedicated pedestrian walkways for safety
  • Separate bicycle lanes to promote green transport
  • Solar-powered streetlights for energy efficiency
  • Comprehensive drainage systems to address flooding

He added that the LAGIS Building will systematically digitise land processes, drastically reduce bureaucratic delays, and robustly strengthen property rights, while the new administrative complex will significantly enhance coordination and synergy among various government agencies. Sanwo-Olu affirmed that these projects collectively reflect a forward-looking, innovative approach to governance, firmly noting that robust infrastructure development remains absolutely central to tangibly improving the quality of life for all residents.

A Call for National Emulation of the Lagos Example

In his concluding remarks, President Tinubu urgently called upon other states across the federation to actively emulate the Lagos model, stating unequivocally that sustained, strategic investment in modern infrastructure and technological innovation is absolutely essential for holistic national development. "Lagos is demonstrably working, Lagos is decisively moving forward, Lagos is consistently setting brilliant examples, and the entire nation of Nigeria genuinely needs to emulate Lagos," he proclaimed, reinforcing his vision for a more interconnected and prosperous Nigeria.
