Women for Social and Rural Development Initiative (WOSORD), in partnership with UN Women and other development stakeholders, has empowered women in Ughelli, Delta State, through a community outreach programme aimed at promoting economic inclusion and sustainable livelihood.
The outreach, with the theme: “Empowering Women for a Sustainable Future,” was held recently at the Palace of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, Otovwodo, Ughelli. It brought together representatives of government, traditional institutions, development organisations, the private sector, and women from underserved communities.
Key Highlights of the Event
Speakers at the event emphasised the importance of women’s economic empowerment as a catalyst for stronger families, resilient communities, and sustainable development. Participants were encouraged to embrace entrepreneurship, financial discipline, and skills development as pathways to financial independence and long-term prosperity.
The programme provided practical knowledge, inspiration, and support to women seeking to improve their economic well-being and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Stakeholders also commended the Founder of WOSORD, Helen Majemite, for her commitment to advancing opportunities for women and creating platforms that support inclusive community development.
Commitment to Rural Women
Speaking after the event, Majemite reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to empowering women, particularly those in rural and underserved communities. She noted that sustainable development can only be achieved when women are equipped with the resources, knowledge, and opportunities needed to thrive.
The outreach forms part of WOSORD’s broader mission to strengthen families, transform communities, and create pathways for women to build better futures for themselves and their families.
