Nigerian Man Explains Why 5kVA Solar Setup Outperforms Larger Systems
5kVA Solar Setup Beats 12kVA: Man Explains Why

A Nigerian man has sparked online debate after explaining how his 5kVA solar inverter with a large 30kWh battery can outperform larger inverter setups. The man, known as @emmyinverters on TikTok, demonstrated his system powering multiple appliances simultaneously at night.

Impressive Demonstration

In the video, recorded around 12:50 a.m., his system ran two air conditioners, a refrigerator, a freezer, and an electric iron all at once. He emphasized that despite the inverter being only 5kVA, the 30kWh battery storage allowed efficient energy use during peak nighttime hours.

Battery Over Inverter Size

The man argued that many people focus on buying larger inverters, like 12kVA systems, but neglect battery storage. A 12kVA inverter with a small 15kWh battery may struggle to sustain heavy loads at night due to insufficient stored energy. In contrast, his 5kVA system with 30kWh handled the load easily, maintaining over 50% charge even after adding appliances that pushed consumption to 4.2kW.

He stated: “The person with a 12kVA setup will struggle to run this kind of load at night. They’ll likely end up sleeping in the dark. I’d rather have a smaller inverter with larger battery storage. At night, that’s when you need the power most. In the morning, I’ll be at work; I won't be home to use the ACs.”

Public Reactions

The video drew comments from TikTok users. Caring asked about the freezer model, while C H I B U E Z E noted the high cost of batteries. Fred okhokho inquired about connecting different battery brands, and Akpunwa Bukas praised the setup.

This story follows a previous report about a Nigerian man who installed a 15kVA solar inverter and shared his experience online.
