In a significant move for Nigeria's power sector, global energy storage leader AlphaESS has officially launched its Nigerian subsidiary. The inauguration took place at a high-level forum in Lagos, marking a firm commitment to a long-term partnership in the nation's energy transition.

The event, held under the theme “Powering Nigeria’s Energy Future” at the Lagos Marriott Hotel Ikeja on 9 January 2026, brought together approximately 150 key stakeholders. Representatives from the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), financial institutions, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms, and renewable energy experts gathered to strategize on accelerating electrification across the country.
The forum served as a platform for crucial policy dialogue and cross-sector collaboration. Ayoade Adegboyega, Executive Director of Corporate Services at the REA, set the tone with a keynote address on the government's electrification vision. The discussions culminated in the official launch of the AlphaESS Nigerian operation, a direct response to the industry's demand for localized technical support and enduring partnerships.
Industry Leaders Address Financing and Local Presence
A pivotal executive roundtable tackled the practical hurdles of deploying renewable energy solutions. George Ogbonanya, Senior Vice President at FCMB, highlighted how the bank's scheme-based lending is improving financing access for mini-grid and commercial energy projects, moving beyond restrictive traditional credit assessments.
Seyi Okunuga, Group Head of Renewable Energy & Sustainability Finance at Sterling Bank, stressed the need for flexible financing structures to enable broader developer participation. A strong call for local after-sales support was made by Alexander C. Obiechina, CEO of ACOB Lighting Technology, who emphasized that original equipment manufacturers must have a real, reliable local presence to ensure system longevity.
Echoing this, Abba Aliyu, MD/CEO of the REA, reaffirmed the government's vision, noting distributed renewable energy as the key technology for last-mile communities and underscoring the private sector's vital role in enhancing grid reliability.
AlphaESS Commits to Localization and Long-Term Value
Josh, General Manager of AlphaESS for Africa and America, declared that the new Nigerian subsidiary completes their service network, achieving full coverage across Southern, Eastern, and Western Africa. “We are committed to being a long-term partner in the nation’s energy transition, filling the critical ‘quality and long-term value’ gap in the Nigerian market,” he stated.
To back this commitment, Max, Country Manager for AlphaESS West Africa, outlined the company's “service-leading” and “long-term commitment” strategies. These include establishing local inventory, technical support teams, and a spare parts warehouse to eliminate long delays from overseas shipping, replicating successful models from markets like Germany and Australia.
On the technical front, Raji, Technical Service Engineer for AlphaESS West Africa, presented tailored product lines. These range from small commercial systems like the STORION-H30/50-G3 to large industrial solutions such as the STORION-H500 and Aster 5000 series, covering a power range from 50 kW to 100 MW to serve businesses of all sizes.
ESG Initiative Focuses on Human Capital Development
The forum concluded with a strong focus on community empowerment. AlphaESS officially launched its ESG initiative, “Shine 30·30·30.” This ambitious program pledges to train 30% of Nigeria’s electrician workforce by 2030 and donate essential learning equipment to 30 schools and hospitals. This ensures the energy transition's benefits extend beyond infrastructure to tangible human capital development.
The event closed with a partnership signing ceremony and awards for pivotal EPCs and partners. This strategic expansion into Nigeria builds on AlphaESS's decade of experience in Africa and its dedication to local compliance and quality assurance.
