The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed strong approval of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State for naming Mrs. Victoria Adunola Samson, the founder of BOVAS Oil and Gas, as the Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN). The student body described the appointment as visionary and merit-driven.
In a statement released by Alao John Oluwadamilola, the National Presidential Spokesperson of NANS, the association noted that the appointment reflects excellence, integrity, and leadership. NANS highlighted Mrs. Samson as one of Nigeria's most respected indigenous entrepreneurs, whose achievements in the oil and gas sector continue to inspire young Nigerians and students nationwide.
According to the statement, her selection as Chancellor acknowledges her contributions to economic growth and job creation, as well as her reputation for discipline, accountability, and service. NANS pointed out that Mrs. Samson built BOVAS Oil and Gas from a single filling station into a leading indigenous company with over 200 service stations across Nigeria.
The association added that her success story demonstrates resilience, business intelligence, and a commitment to national development. It also noted her historic achievement as the first Nigerian to win the Texaco Latin America and West Africa Award for Best Overall Dealer, calling it a testament to her professionalism and excellence.
NANS expressed confidence that her experience and leadership will contribute positively to the growth and institutional advancement of UNIOSUN. The students' body further praised Governor Adeleke for what it described as a strategic appointment that strengthens confidence in the education sector and fosters collaboration between tertiary institutions and accomplished private sector leaders.
The association maintained that the governor's action underscores his administration's commitment to educational development, leadership promotion, and institutional growth in Osun State.
