10-Year-Old Sophie Onugbu Launches Two Books

At an age when many children are just discovering their favorite storybooks, 10-year-old Sophie Chukwunoyenum Onugbu is already writing her own. The Primary 5 pupil of Montessori International Group of Schools, Port Harcourt, recently celebrated her 10th birthday with the launch of two books, The Other Side of Waiting and The Grey Spell, marking an impressive entry into the world of literature.

A Celebration of Young Talent

The event, held recently in Port Harcourt, drew literary enthusiasts, family members, friends, teachers, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the young author's achievement. Speaking at the ceremony, Sophie said her passion for writing grew from her love of reading books by different authors.

“I developed the skill of writing from my love for reading different books written by different authors,” she said. “My parents noticed my interest and gift at an early age and encouraged me by engaging a coach who helped sharpen my writing skills and guide me in the right direction.”

She expressed appreciation to her parents, teachers, and mentors for supporting her literary journey and helping her develop her talent.

The Books and Themes

The two books, which explore themes of adventure, imagination, and personal growth, have already attracted positive reviews from readers and guests at the launch. For Sophie, however, the publication of her first books is only the beginning.

“My dream is to become one of the greatest young Nigerian writers and inspire others through my stories,” she said.

Background and Inspiration

Originally from Emu-Obodeti in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, Sophie lives in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where she combines her studies with a growing passion for creative writing. Guests at the event described her achievement as proof that children can accomplish remarkable things when their talents are identified early and properly nurtured.

They also stressed the importance of encouraging reading and creative expression among young people. With the successful launch of her first two books at just 10 years old, Sophie has taken a significant step toward realizing her literary dreams while inspiring other children to believe in their abilities and pursue their passions.

For many attendees, the occasion was the beginning of what could become an exciting literary journey for one of Nigeria's promising young writers.
