A graduate of Delta State University (DELSU) who faced significant academic challenges in her first year, including six carry-overs and multiple D grades, has taken to social media to reveal her final year results and numerous awards. The young lady, known on TikTok as @styledbyanthia, shared her journey from a difficult start to finishing with a second class lower degree.
Difficult 100-Level Experience
In her viral TikTok post, she explained that she finished her 100 level with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.79. She wrote: "Finished 100 level with plenty D's and 6 F's and with a CGPA of 1.79 (a very bad result to start with). I did not really feel bad about it because I thought I was still too young to understand the reason I was in school."
Turning Point in 200 Level
During her 200 level, she decided to take her studies more seriously, realizing her mother's financial investment should not be wasted. However, she faced another setback when she wrote an exam but left her answer sheet blank. She recalled: "I came outside crying to my friend (Sophia) that I will fail, that I did not write anything. The result came out and I failed that particular course which was my only carry-over in 200 level."
Improvement in 300 Level and Beyond
By her 300 level, she improved significantly, earning many A and B grades with no carry-overs. She attributed this success to God and a friend named Ufuoma who helped her with her studies. She continued to perform well in her 400 and 500 levels, with no carry-overs, and successfully retook all her 100-level carry-over courses without failing again.
Awards and Final Results
Despite her initial struggles, she graduated with a second class lower degree and won multiple academic awards from the institution. Her TikTok post showcased these achievements, drawing congratulations from users such as lovis_perfumery, Pj max16, and Genevive.
This story echoes that of another DELSU graduate who recently trended for graduating with a 4.90 CGPA and winning awards as the best graduating student in her department, faculty, and overall. Additionally, a young lady who graduated as the best student in the Department of English and Literary Studies at DELSU shared how she started a business in her 100 level and overcame financial challenges while serving as an SUG executive.
