UNILORIN Med Student Overcomes Fear of Professional Exam, Shares Inspiring Journey
UNILORIN Student Overcomes Fear of Professional Exam

A young lady studying at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has celebrated completing her final professional examination, sharing how she overcame years of fear. Olayinka Ijaiya, a final-year medical laboratory science student, opened up about her academic journey on LinkedIn, revealing that she had dreaded the exam since her 200 level.

From Fear to Excitement

In her LinkedIn post, Ijaiya explained that professional examinations were always portrayed as daunting—a culmination of lectures, practicals, sleepless nights, and clinical postings. Her first professional exam left her nervous and uncertain, but she succeeded, building confidence. On June 2, 2026, she sat for her second and final professional exam in Hematology. Surprisingly, she felt excitement instead of fear and preparedness instead of anxiety.

“I walked into the examination hall smiling, and I walked out smiling too,” she wrote. “That smile was not because the examination was easy. It was because I could see how far I had come. It was the smile of someone who had spent years learning, growing, making mistakes, asking questions, attending practical sessions, and gradually building competence and confidence.”

Growth Through Challenges

Ijaiya reflected on how growth often happens quietly until faced with a moment that once terrified her. What used to be one of her greatest academic fears became an opportunity to demonstrate her learning. She expressed gratitude to God, lecturers, mentors, classmates, family, and friends for their support.

“Medical Laboratory Science has challenged me, stretched me, and shaped me in ways I never imagined,” she added.

Reactions from Well-Wishers

Her post attracted congratulatory messages. Gbadebo Maroof Oyeniyi commented, “Congratulations on this milestone. Truly, it wasn't for the weak ones. Cheers!!!” Aisha Yusuf said, “Congratulations on completing your final Professional Examination! Your journey from fear to excitement is truly inspiring and a testament to your hard work and growth.”
