The Embassy of Ireland in Nigeria has announced that applications for the Ireland Fellows Programme will open on Monday, June 29, 2026, and close on July 26, 2026. The programme offers fully funded master's scholarships for early to mid-career professionals from Nigeria and Ghana.
Eligibility and Coverage
Applicants must be Nigerian or Ghanaian nationals with a minimum of a second class lower degree and at least three years of relevant work experience. The scholarship covers tuition fees, flight and visa costs, a monthly allowance, health insurance, and accommodation stipends.
Nigerians are eligible to apply for the Roger Casement Fellowship in Human Rights, focusing on master's programmes in Law, Human Rights, and Governance. Ghanaians can apply for programmes in Agriculture, Health, Education, Human Rights, Engineering, Business, and more.
Social Media Reactions
Some Nigerians have expressed concerns on social media. User Ofor criticized those who claimed the application was closed before the opening date: "The post says it's going to open on the 29th, which is not here yet, and people who want to apply for an academic scholarship are saying it's closed already. You all have failed already, even before applying. Shame!"
User AbdHafeez decried the exclusion of HND holders: "This is the degree of discrimination we talk about every time. Why only open to BSc holders and not to HND holders?" User Joseph questioned why Ghanaians have more programme choices: "What does Ghana have a larger pool of choices than Nigeria doesn't?"
Application Process
The embassy stated that applications must be submitted through the official website: https://irelandfellows.africa. The programme is managed by the Embassy of Ireland in Nigeria for applicants from both countries.
